Persons with disabilities

On #day9 of #16daysofactivism we celebrate the #internationaldayofpersonswithdisabilities. This day is special to @doorsofhopekenya because we exist to advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities and ensure that they are valued, respected and included in all aspects of the society. Persons with Disabilities are greatly affected by GBV and there's need to adopt a holistic approach that includes raising awareness, ensuring accessibility to support services, and promoting inclusive policies and legal frameworks. Advocacy efforts should strive to eliminate stereotypes, enhance communication accessibility, and empower individuals with disabilities to assert their rights and seek assistance when needed. Every person deserves respect, dignity, and equal opportunities. #idpwd2023 #inclusionforall #endgbv

Youth training on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Gender Based Violence

In 2024, Doors of Hope will be training youths between 18 - 24 years and adolescent and young mothers who have dropped out of school in Athi River on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Gender Based Violence (GBV), and Youth Empowerment. The first training was attended by youths from Sofia, Makadara, Njuguini, Site, Jua Kali, Embakasi, Slota, and Bondeni. Regardless of the many rising cases of GBV, GBV remains a topic that most youths are not well-versed in. Empowerment of youths starts with them making informed choices and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to combat GBV is essential in creating a safer and more inclusive future. The first of the 4 cohorts of 2024 completed a 3-week intensive training and received certificates awarded by Senior Assistant County Commisioner1, Mr. Micah Ondoro as acknowledgment of their hard work and dedication in the journey towards personal and professional development. The youths will henceforth be champions for positive change among fellow youths and help create a brighter future for Athi River youths.
